KY ANH TUNNELS – A HISTORICAL SITE IN DA NANG

Ky Anh Tunnels – A Historical Site in Da Nang.

Ky Anh Tunnels, located in Tam Thang Ward, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province, are one of the most important historical relics in Central Vietnam. The tunnel system was built during the resistance war against the United States, starting around 1965. It was created by local soldiers and residents as a secret underground base for fighting, hiding, and surviving under extremely difficult conditions.

The tunnels stretch for more than 30 kilometers, forming a complex underground network. The width is about 0.8 to 1 meter, and the height ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 meters, just enough for one person to move through. Inside, there are many functional areas such as living spaces, kitchens, storage rooms, secret exits, and especially a command bunker (command center), where important military decisions were made and operations were directed.

One of the most touching stories about Ky Anh Tunnels is about the fierce battles that took place here. During enemy attacks, many local soldiers and villagers stayed inside the tunnels for days, even weeks, enduring hunger, darkness, and danger. In one battle, despite heavy bombing, the people and soldiers protected the tunnel system and continued to fight bravely. Some sacrificed their lives to keep the tunnels secret and ensure the safety of others. Their courage and unity became a powerful symbol of resilience and patriotism.

Today, visitors to Ky Anh Tunnels can walk through the narrow underground paths and imagine the harsh life during wartime. The site stands as a strong reminder of the intelligence, bravery, and unbreakable spirit of the Vietnamese people.

Ky Anh Tunnels are not only a tourist attraction but also a meaningful place to learn about history and honor those who sacrificed for the country.
